I am a rarity. I am a 20-something who cares about the state of the environment. While you would think with all the recent events linked to global warming, my generation (Generation BE as Athena has labeled us) would wake up and smell the organic coffee. It’s time for a change. Instead, this upcoming generation is focused on money, cars, clothes and prestige. Paris Hilton recently said in an interview that she was doing her part by ordering a hybrid Hummer (there is no such thing). Those select few of us who do care are labeled “hippies” a term that really is completely inaccurate. So how do you reach this generation? How do we make them understand that we have to fight now for a healthy planet tomorrow?

With all of the hub-bub about green, it is easy to assume that everyone is eager for the journey. But like other social movements before it, the evolution to a more sustainable economy looks more like the hodgepodge crew who traveled with Dorothy to the find The Emerald City. While each of us have our own reasons to get there, whether we like it or not, we must walk the path together. No where is it more true than with the various shades of green that are emerging as we change the way we define sustainability.
