Now:

  1. Choose a new Email Address. I'll create the mailbox.
  2. Set your outlook to get mail from your new mailbox (as well as your old mailboxes)
  3. Set the REPLY to addresses on your outgoing mail to the new address
  4. Change business cards, Website, etc to reflect new address

--> at this time, you're still receiving mail from the old and the new addresses <--

  5. Put an auto-reply on your old address "Your message has been received by, but please note that this address will no longer be valid after (30 days from now)..." although it will actually work for 60 days.
  6. Set up a rule in outlook so that emails to your old address are highlighted in a different color.
  7. Send out a change of address to key people. Whatch the different colored emails and notify people who are sending to this old address.

In 30 Days:

Change the message to "Your email has NOT been Received. Please resend it to the new address..." (even though this is not true yet)

Set up a rule in outlook so that emails to your old address go into a different folder. Check occasionally to make sure you're not missing anything. All valid emails should be resent to the new address by the sender, or, if automated (from airlines, newsletters, etc), you will notice that you need to change your email address with those companies.

In 60 days:

Change outlook so that you do not receive mail from the old address -- but people will still get the message that the old address is no longer in use.
